Living Well gives you a fresh perspective on Christian spirituality in the twenty-first century – and a practical guide to deepening your relationship with God.
Why is encountering God different today? Why do we need a spirituality for the twenty-first century? Christians are different today because we bring our postmodern mindsets and knowledge with us, as we try to faithfully relate with and follow Jesus, amid a secular-scientific culture. We cope with the challenges of following God everyday by carving out special times in our busy lives – ‘God-time’ – to place ourselves in God’s presence, in prayer, in church, in service. But what about the rest of the time? How can we completely commit our ‘me-time’ to God? Living Well gives readers a practical five step process for Everyday Spirituality.
It challenges readers to consider: Can we experience God’s presence in everyday life? What is that experience like? When we commit to follow Jesus, what does God ask of us, in practical terms? How can we deal with living in a secular society which denies the presence of the sacred? What are we asked to do, every day, to transform our world? Living Well relates spirituality to the average Christian’s life. As one reader said, ‘I particularly liked the examples from your life. They illustrate what you’re talking about and help trigger memories of the reader’s own experiences.’

3 reviews for Living Well in the Presence of God

  1. Brendan Purcell, author of From Big Bang to Big Mystery

What St Francis de Sales’ Introduction to the Devout Life did for lay folk in the 1600s, Jim Brown’s Living Well in the Presence of God will do for Christians living in the distracting world of the twenty-first century.

  2. Bishop Brad Billings, Anglican Diocese of Melbourne (verified owner)

“Living Well in the Presence of God is a fresh and engaging exhortation for people everywhere, and for people of Christian faith in particular, to live every aspect of the wholeness and fullness of everyday life alive and aware to the presence of the divine.”

  3. Lyn Hale, Thornbury Victoria (verified owner)

Living Well in the Presence of God is for anyone who struggles to understand how to follow God in a culture that has all but eliminated God from its way of life. “Your book is very moving, refreshing and timely — How much we need that refreshment today!”
